Mato Grosso ended 2025 with a record high in beef exports. According to the Mato Grosso Institute of Agricultural Economics (Imea), the volume increased by 28.86% compared to 2024, reaching 978.41 million tons in carcass weight equivalent (TEC). Revenue totaled US$4.11 billion, an increase of 53.82%. The average price was US$4,201.24 per ton, the second highest in the historical series. China accounted for 536.96 million TEC, an increase of 52.69%.
The state also recorded the highest volume of slaughter in the year, totaling 7.46 million head, an increase of 1.44% over 2024. The boost came from the greater supply of animals finished in intensive systems and from external demand. “We broke records in slaughter and exports. This shows the strength of Mato Grosso's livestock industry and the diversification of markets, with Chile, Russia and countries in the Middle East,” says Rodrigo Silva, coordinator of Agricultural Market Intelligence at Imea.
Slaughter of young animals (up to 24 months) totaled 3.22 million head, an increase of 17,55% in the year. These animals accounted for 43,24% of the total. "The younger categories gained ground, reflecting intensification, genetic improvement, and nutrition," says Rodrigo.
In the short term, slaughter schedules decreased by 11,60% and stood at 13.31 days. The adjustment follows the recent increase in supply and the industrial pace. "Demand remains robust, but supply is still high. Equilibrium should come in 2026, with repercussions on restocking," he assesses.
The Imea bulletin also records a weekly drop of 1.11% in the price per arroba of finished cattle for future delivery and 0.42% in the price per arroba of finished cows. "Even with strong exports and high domestic consumption, prices did not rise as expected due to supply. The quality of the herd and access to new markets support this scenario," it concludes.
