Inmet issues red alert for accumulated rainfall in areas of Minas Gerais, Espírito Santo and Goiás.

The National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) has issued a red alert for high-danger rainfall accumulation in areas of Minas Gerais, Espírito Santo, and Goiás. According to Inmet, the forecast indicates very high volumes of precipitation in a short period of time, which significantly increases the risk of impacts such as flooding, flash floods, overflowing rivers, and landslides.

According to Inmet, red alerts signal the possibility of significant rainfall accumulations, which may exceed the values normally expected for the period. In these areas, the soil may already be saturated, which favors the occurrence of landslides, especially in urban areas, slopes, and areas near watercourses.

In addition to the high-danger alert for accumulated rainfall, Inmet also maintains warnings of intense rainfall at danger (orange) and potential danger (yellow) levels across a wide area of the country. These alerts indicate the occurrence of heavy rain in a short period, accompanied by gusts of wind and electrical discharges, with a risk of disruptions such as localized flooding, falling trees, and power outages.
