ABCS proposes specific credit for retention of matrices in the 2025/2026 Harvest Plan

The Brazilian Association of Pig Farmers (ABCS) filed a new letter with the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAPA) this April with proposals for the 2025/2026 Harvest Plan. The contributions aim to improve credit conditions for pig farming, a sector that demands constant investment in technology and animal welfare and faces longer production cycles.

Among the proposals, the entity highlights the need to create a line of retention of sows with a two-year grace period for payment. In the document, ABCS highlights that swine production requires approximately nine months to adjust to market demand, in addition to a productive cycle of the sow that totals approximately 24 months (five cycles).

The entity estimates that the implementation would represent an amount of R$1,500,000, to be made available to producers, with interest rates appropriate to other lines directed to small and medium producers. The calculation was made based on the average costs of January 2025 published by Embrapa – Swine and Poultry, including acquisition values for breeding stock, feed, medicines and vaccines.

ABCS president Marcelo Lopes explains that the specific credit line is essential to provide sustainability to pig farmers. “Our sector has a unique dynamic, with a longer production cycle and a constant need for investment. Therefore, these adjustments are necessary to guarantee producers access to financing policies in a fairer and more efficient manner.”

Another point addressed in the letter is the adjustment of the financing limits for the Inovagro line. ABCS proposes increasing the maximum individual amount to R$4 million and the collective credit to R$12 million. The justification is the need for investments in structural adjustments on farms to meet animal welfare standards, such as Normative Instruction 113 of December 2020.
