Conbrasul Ovos 2025 reflects the resilience and strength of the sector with optimistic prospects for the domestic market and exports

The egg industry and production has demonstrated resilience and unity during the 5th Brazil South Conference on the Egg Industry and Production (Conbrasul Ovos), which has been taking place since Sunday (1st), in Gramado, in the Serra Gaúcha region. Until Tuesday (03), the event brings together 400 participants, leaders of the production chain, to discuss the main challenges and opportunities of the sector, in addition to measures to combat the isolated focus of avian influenza in a commercial farm, in Rio Grande do Sul, and strategies for prevention and reinforcement of biosecurity throughout the country.

Participants from all over the country, as well as from other countries in South America, the European Union and Canada, are meeting two weeks after the case was confirmed in Montenegro. “I am impressed with the support we received for holding the event and the presence of the entire production chain. It is very important that we are close now, because we need to discuss this challenge now that it is happening. The egg market is growing and we have a lot of responsibility”, said the executive president of the Rio Grande do Sul Poultry Association (Asgav) and organizer of the meeting, José Eduardo dos Santos.

Despite the challenges, the egg market is currently experiencing growth, not only in the domestic market, but also in exports, according to projections presented by the Brazilian Animal Protein Association (ABPA).

Brazil is the 5th largest egg producer in the world, with a production of 57.7 billion eggs last year, a record. “The sector exports to 81 countries and, last year, there was an increase in housing of 10% for breeders and 4% for commercial laying hens,” highlighted ABPA’s Market Intelligence coordinator, Laíz Foltran.

Exports represent less than 1% of production, which represents an opportunity for expansion in the production chain. “And, in exports, the star is Rio Grande do Sul, with a share of 35% of the total exported. The expectation for this year is an increase in national egg exports of around 62%, reaching 30 thousand tons of exported eggs”, he said.

For the domestic market, projections are also for growth. Per capita consumption this year is expected to increase by 1.1% compared to the previous year, reaching 272 eggs per capita per inhabitant per year.
