Self-declaration should accelerate the normalization of exports, highlights ABPA

The Brazilian Animal Protein Association (ABPA) celebrated the officialization of Brazil's self-declaration of being free of avian influenza, delivered this Wednesday (18) by the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock to the World Organization for Animal Health (WHO).

According to the president of ABPA, Ricardo Santin, this is a definitive step towards speeding up negotiations to reestablish Brazilian exports in the face of the various markets that currently apply some type of restriction or suspension.

“The 28-day sanitary gap includes two life cycles of the virus, to ensure that the farm where the outbreak occurred is completely free. The self-declaration reestablishes our sanitary status. At a time when dozens of nations, including all major poultry producers, are facing problems and incidents in their respective productions, we have overcome the only incident in the entire history of the poultry industry, which is the largest exporter and second largest producer of chicken meat in the world. We are confident that normal shipments will quickly be restored and that we will strengthen our role in promoting global food security,” emphasizes ABPA president Ricardo Santin.
