Corn costs rise in Mato Grosso and the price per bag no longer covers the Total Operating Cost, indicates Imea

The Mato Grosso Institute of Agricultural Economics (IMEA) released a report detailing updates on the state's corn harvest. The survey highlights that corn costs for the 2025/26 harvest in August 2025 closed at R$1,295.32 per hectare, an increase of R$0.481 per hectare compared to the previous month.

The Effective Operating Cost increased by 0.33% in the month, being projected at R$ 4,782.75 per hectare. Thus, the Total Operating Cost reached R$ 5,372.17/ha for the season, an increase of 0.28% compared to July/25.

“In view of this, when analyzing the Break-Even Point of the production cost indicators for the next harvest, compared to the weighted price of corn from the 25/26 cycle until August/25, of R$ 44.43/sc, it can be seen that the current value covers the PE expenses of Costing and COE”, highlights Imea.

However, the publication points out that, with the increase of 13.92% in the COT PE in the annual comparison, the weighted price of the cereal is no longer sufficient to cover these expenses.

"This movement indicates that producers are struggling to fully cover depreciation and Pró-Labore costs, which puts pressure on operating margins and increases dependence on productivity gains or rising grain prices," say Imea technicians.
