Brazilian Simmental highlights genetics adapted to tropical climates and promotes events in March.

Originating from one of the most widespread European lineages in the world, the Simmental breed, now the second largest cattle breed globally, has developed its own trajectory in Brazil. After more than a century of selection in the country, the so-called Brazilian Simmental emerged, a genetic line adapted to tropical conditions and the needs of livestock farmers, especially those who work with breeding and raising cattle on pasture in the Midwest.

The adaptation of the breed in the country prioritized functional characteristics important for tropical production systems, such as greater heat tolerance, shorter coat, resistance, and performance in extensive systems. As a result, the Brazilian Simmental has established itself as a taurine breed capable of efficiently covering pasture and meeting the needs of industrial crossbreeding programs. When mated with zebu cattle, the breed contributes to the production of heavier calves, a result of the heterosis effect.

“For this additional performance gain to occur consistently, it is essential to have a bull adapted to the tropical climate and management, a central point in the selection of the Brazilian Simmental breed,” says Mário Coelho Aguiar Neto (Mamado), leader of the Brazilian Simmental Group, which brings together 25 breeders from Bahia, Espírito Santo, Goiás, Minas Gerais and São Paulo.

Brazilian Association of Breeders of the SIMMENTAL & SIMBRASIL BreedsAmong the activities are a virtual exhibition with judging of the animals, technical rounds, and a shopping area offering specimens of the breed at fixed prices.

Schedule

The 3rd Virtual Exhibition of the Brazilian Simmental will be held between March 19th and 22nd, with judging in a Global Evaluation format, a model that allows public participation in voting on the animals, with different weights assigned to the scores. On March 26th, a live stream will be held to present the results of the exhibition.

Following that, between March 28th and April 1st, the 8th Brazilian Simmental Shopping event will take place, an event already established on the breed's calendar and focused on the sale of bulls and other animals mainly intended for industrial crossbreeding projects in the Midwest.
