Prices for Tahiti limes have fallen in recent days in the state of São Paulo, pressured by increased supply. According to data released by the Center for Advanced Studies in Applied Economics (Cepea), the greater availability is related to the concentrated harvest, after prices reached their highest levels of the year in early September.
According to collaborators consulted by Cepea, the sharp price increase recorded at the beginning of September occurred mainly due to a very limited supply. At that time, smaller-sized fruits, between 40 and 45 millimeters, also predominated, precisely at a time of high demand. The rains also limited field activities in some regions, further restricting the volume of fruit reaching the market.
Throughout September, however, this scenario began to change. According to data released by Cepea, rainfall favored the development and size increase of the fruit.
In some regions, part of the volume that remained in the orchards began to be harvested, increasing the availability of Tahiti limes on the market.
According to researchers at Cepea, the increased supply contributed to the change in price behavior, which began to decline in recent days. This movement shows how the concentration of the harvest, weather conditions, and fruit size influenced the availability of Tahiti limes throughout September.
