Corn: second crop harvest reaches 98.1%

The harvest of corn The second corn crop of 2026 reached 98.1% of the planted area, while the sowing of the first corn crop of 2026/27 reached 17.6% of the planned area. According to data released by the National Supply Company (Conab), the progress occurs amidst the impacts of rains and attention to pests in different states.

The second corn harvest is practically complete in the main producing regions. In Mato Grosso, Goiás, Tocantins, Maranhão, Bahia, and Piauí, the work has already been finished. In Pará and Mato Grosso do Sul, the harvest is in its final stages. In Minas Gerais, operations are also practically concluded.

In São Paulo, the progress of the harvest was interrupted by the heavy rains recorded during the week. In Paraná, 93% of the area had already been harvested, with the crops generally showing good development. The rains also caused interruptions in operations in Paraná and caused plants to topple over in some areas due to gusts of wind.

According to data released by Conab, 17.6% of the area planned for the first corn crop of 2026/27 had already been sown. In Rio Grande do Sul, weather conditions favor the progress of planting, which has already exceeded half of the planned area. Crop establishment is considered satisfactory. Frosts recorded on September 6th and 7th affected areas in vegetative development and caused damage. Control of corn leafhoppers and stink bugs remains among the main points of attention.

In Santa Catarina, planting is progressing in the western and far western regions. The emergence and vegetative development phases predominate, with satisfactory establishment.

In areas with very wet soils, however, the risk of plant emergence failure increases. Monitoring is focused on... corn leafhopperin fall armyworm and in the case of stink bugs. In Paraná, most crops are emerging and showing good vegetative development. The rains interrupted sowing, while corn leafhopper attacks require attention.

Brazilian corn exports accumulated through August 2026 totaled 14.5 million tons, compared to 15.7 million tons in the same period of the previous year, according to data released by Conab. The Ports of the Northern Arc accounted for 48,98% of the movement, above the 41,14% recorded in the same period of the previous year.

Santos accounted for 27% of the shipped volumes, compared to 29.6% in the same period last year. Paranaguá accounted for 7.2%, compared to 11.4% previously.

The Port of Rio Grande increased its share to 10.1%, compared to 5% in the same period of the previous year. Among the states that participated most in sales destined for export are Mato Grosso, Rio Grande do Sul, Paraná, and Goiás.

While the second corn harvest nears its end, planting of the first corn crop for 2026/27 is progressing in different regions of the country. The scenario combines interruptions caused by rain, localized damage from frost and wind, and the need for pest monitoring, especially for the corn leafhopper, fall armyworm, and stink bugs. In exports, the accumulated volume up to August remains below that recorded in the same period of 2025, although the participation of the Ports of the Northern Arc and Rio Grande has increased in the movement of the cereal.
