The fat cattle market ended October on a high note in the state of Mato Grosso, with significant numbers in both slaughter and prices. According to data from the Mato Grosso Institute of Agricultural Economics (Imea), the state recorded 715,310 head slaughtered in the month, an increase of 8.991 TP4T compared to September. The volume also surpassed the previous monthly record, registered in July 2024, by 3.791 TP4T.
The main factor for the new record was the increase in the slaughter of males from the second round of feedlot finishing, in a year that is expected to register the highest volume of animals confined in history in Mato Grosso. Even so, the participation of females in the slaughter decreased to 39,33% in October, signaling less culling of breeding females.
In the physical market, the price per arroba of live cattle for future delivery increased by 0.89% last week, averaging R$ 303.41/@. This movement reflects lower domestic supply and a firm market scenario in São Paulo, which reduced the basis differential between Mato Grosso and São Paulo to -8.40%, a decrease of 0.76 percentage points compared to the previous week.
Another highlight was the performance of the 12.5 arroba calving cow, whose average price reached R$ 292.31/@, an increase of 8.87% in one week. The significant increase is linked to the greater demand for this category within the state.
For the coming months, Imea projects that the supply of animals will remain high, although with a slight reduction starting in November, a period in which the post-peak confinement slowdown traditionally occurs.
"The market has been showing a balance between supply and demand, with prices reacting positively to the gradual reduction in finished lots and the good pace of slaughter," notes the institute's weekly bulletin.
Exports in Mato Grosso
In October 2025, Mato Grosso recorded historical records in beef exports, both in volume and revenue. External sales of fresh beef totaled 107,940 tons carcass weight equivalent (CWE), representing a growth of 35.191 TP4T compared to the same month in 2024.
The average price paid per ton also increased, reaching US$4,287.90/t, a rise of 19.86% compared to the previous year, resulting in total revenue of US$462.82 million. This performance reflects the strong international demand for Mato Grosso beef, especially from China, which imported 413,650 TEC between January and October — 45.55% more than the volume shipped in the same period of the previous year.
Other relevant markets, such as Russia, Chile, and the United States, also increased their purchases, with increases of 2.29 times, 1.45 times, and 1.22 times, respectively.
With this significant progress, Mato Grosso consolidates its prominent position in the foreign trade of beef and may, for the first time in history, end 2025 as the national leader in beef protein exports.
