A heat wave alert with a degree of severity of potential danger is affecting the Southeast, part of the Midwest and the South of the country, according to a warning issued by the National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet). The alert was valid from Tuesday afternoon (23), at 3 pm, until 6 pm next Thursday (25), Christmas holiday.
According to Inmet, temperatures are expected to remain about 5°C above the climatological average for a period of two to three days, which represents a slight health risk, especially for more vulnerable groups such as the elderly, children, and people with chronic diseases.
The warning covers large areas of the states of São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, as well as regions of Minas Gerais, Espírito Santo, Goiás, Mato Grosso do Sul, and Paraná. Among the affected areas are the São Paulo Metropolitan Region, Campinas, Ribeirão Preto, Bauru, Marília, Presidente Prudente, the Vale do Paraíba Paulista region, and the southern coast of São Paulo state. In Rio de Janeiro, the alert includes the Metropolitan Region, the coastal lowlands, the southern part of the state of Rio de Janeiro, and the northern and northwestern parts of the state.
In Minas Gerais, the heat wave is affecting areas such as the Triângulo Mineiro/Alto Paranaíba, southern and southwestern Minas Gerais, Zona da Mata, Campo das Vertentes, and western parts of the state. In Espírito Santo, the warning applies to the central and southern regions of the state. In the Midwest, the alert covers southern Goiás and eastern Mato Grosso do Sul. In Paraná, areas such as the Northern Pioneer region, the North Central region, the Northwest region of Paraná, and the Curitiba Metropolitan Region, among others, are affected.
Inmet recommends extra caution during periods of intense heat, including frequent water intake, avoiding sun exposure during the hottest hours of the day, and reducing outdoor physical activity. The institute continues to monitor atmospheric conditions and may update its warnings as the weather situation evolves.
