SÃO PAULO (Reuters) - Early sales of soybeans from the 2025/26 cycle in Mato Grosso advanced to 14.15% of the future harvest projection, but the numbers are still below the levels recorded in previous years, according to data released by the Mato Grosso Institute of Agricultural Economics (Imea) on Monday.

Despite a monthly growth of 3.44 percentage points, the index is behind the 16.51% sales recorded in the same period last year for the future harvest so far.

On a five-year average, the indicator is that advance sales amount to just over a quarter of the future harvest at this time.

Based on preliminary projections of area and productivity, soybean production in Mato Grosso in 2025/26 — a cycle that will have planting from mid-September — could reach 47.18 million tons, according to Imea.

For the 2024/25 harvest, already harvested, 76% of production had been sold, with a monthly advance of 5.47 percentage points.

Despite this, the number is also slightly lower than that recorded in the same period of the 2023/2024 harvest, which reached 77.90%, and is below the historical average level (82.39%).

CORN

The sale of corn from the 2024/25 harvest in Mato Grosso, with harvesting in the initial phase, reached 51.05% of total production, according to data from Imea.

The monthly advance was 7.35 percentage points, consolidating a performance superior to that of the previous harvest at this time (36.17%), but below the average of the last five years (60.85%).

The cereal harvest in Mato Grosso is expected to exceed 50 million tons, according to the latest figures from Imea.

For the 2025/26 harvest, which will only be planted next year, producers set sales of 5.83% of the expected corn production, with a monthly advance of 2 percentage points.

The performance is higher than that recorded in the same period of the previous year for the future harvest (2.92%), but is behind the historical average (15%).
