Billion-dollar exports: discover the revenue of Santa Catarina's agriculture sector

In international trade, Santa Catarina's agribusiness exports totaled US$1.5T 7.51 billion and accounted for 64.31T4T of the total value of Santa Catarina's exports. The state stands out in international trade for Brazilian exports of pork and chicken, timber and soybeans. These products are mainly destined for China, the United States, Japan and Mexico. "Although challenges related to tariff and logistics costs remain, these markets are already consolidated for our products due to the well-structured production chains, sanitary quality and port infrastructure", explains Toresan.

The analyst explains that grains performed poorly, with sharp drops in corn, soybeans and beans, due to the combination of lower prices and a drop in production. “Onions had good production, but prices were very low. Meanwhile, tobacco had good prices, but a sharp drop in production,” he says.

Bananas and grapes had good results, while apples and passion fruit were affected by the drop in production. According to Toresan, the results were affected by the rains in October and November 2023, which damaged the agricultural crops that were in the field at that time, and consequently, reduced crop production by around 6%.

“The area cultivated with crops had a retraction of -1.13%, also affected by the climatic events of October/November 2023. Due to the fall in prices of some inputs, producers had profitability in most productions, with the exception of onions”, reports Toresan.

According to the analyst, in the last 10 years Santa Catarina has seen an increase in cultivated area and gains in productivity, despite constant crop failures. He explains that 2024 presented lower results than the previous year due to the fall in prices of crops such as corn, soybeans, onions and beans.
