Egg exports hit record high in May

Contrary to what was observed for chicken meat, Brazilian egg exports (fresh and processed) continued to grow in May, even in the face of restrictions imposed after the confirmation of an outbreak of Avian Influenza on a commercial farm in Rio Grande do Sul.

Driven mainly by strong and constant demand from the United States, which absorbed 77.8% of exports last month, sales reached the highest monthly volume ever recorded in the Secex historical series, which began in 1997.

According to data from Secex, compiled and analyzed by Cepea, 5.36 thousand tons of fresh and processed eggs were shipped in May, an increase of 23% compared to April and a strong 296% in the annual comparison.

In the domestic market, surveys by Cepea show that egg prices are rising for the second consecutive week in all regions monitored.

The combination of controlled supply and heated demand has sustained increases in the first half of June, as researchers explain.
