Corn prices fall in several markets and Conab reinforces supply

The price of corn is falling in several regions, reflecting the prospect of ample supply in Brazil, as predicted by the National Supply Company (Conab) in its 8th Grain Harvest Announcement, released on May 15, 2025. The fall in the price of corn sold through the Over-the-Counter Sales Program (ProVB) was observed in regions such as Bahia, Maranhão, Distrito Federal and Piauí.

For example, at the Irecê Storage Unit (BA), there was a reduction of approximately 15% in the price of the product in this fortnight compared to the last fifteen days of the previous month. This effect demonstrates the importance of ProVB as a tool to support the production chain, providing access to the main input, corn, for animal feed.

Conab is working to normalize the supply of corn in the Northeast, North and São Paulo regions, through ProVB, by allocating approximately 65 thousand tons of the product to meet the demand in these locations. The corn is being transported from the Center-West, mainly from the state of Mato Grosso, the largest national producer of the grain, to distribution points in the benefited regions.

The ProVB aims to provide small-scale rural farmers with access to public stocks of agricultural products managed by Conab. Sales are made directly, at prices compatible with those practiced in the local wholesale market, ensuring supply and balance in the sector.

These and other measures have contributed to the increase in ProVB's sales volume this year, which has already grown by 45% compared to the same period (January to April) in 2024. In terms of the number of customers, 33% more breeders have already been reached compared to last year, which demonstrates Conab's efforts to strengthen and expand the Program throughout the country.

In addition to ensuring supply, ProVB plays a fundamental social role: it promotes the inclusion of small farmers, strengthens agricultural activity, generates income and jobs, and contributes to reducing rural exodus. In this way, Conab reaffirms its commitment to sustainable development and food security in various regions of the country.
