The more contained increases in wheat prices paid to producers in relation to the wholesale market should limit the attractiveness of cultivating the cereal in this year's season – Conab already estimates a smaller area than in 2024.
Thus, Cepea researchers assess that growth in production will depend on productivity, which, for now, is estimated to compensate for the reduction in area and generate greater supply in 2025.
According to data from Conab, sowing for the 2025 harvest has begun in Goiás and Minas Gerais.
In the main producing states, such as Paraná and Rio Grande do Sul, activities are expected to begin only between May and June. In this month's report, Conab points to a decrease of 9.3% in the area allocated to the crop in 2025, to 2.77 million hectares.
National productivity is estimated at 3.06 tonnes/hectare, on average, 18.5% higher than in 2024, which would contribute to a production of 8.47 million tonnes, 7.4% higher than the previous year.
