Imea (Mato Grosso Institute of Agricultural Economics) released a report providing updates on the harvest of the state's main crops, such as corn and cotton, showing progress in the activities of this second harvest.
For corn, work is already in the final stretch, with 90,66% of the estimated area harvested by last Friday (24) after a weekly advance of 11.74 percentage points. Compared to the same period last year, the harvest is 0.29 pp ahead due to the continued dry weather, which boosted operations.
Currently, Imea estimates production at 57.06 million tons, 2.92% higher than the previous cycle. "With the harvest nearing its end and yields from harvested areas remaining high, the estimate of a record crop is reinforced," says the report.
"In the market, the scenario of ample supply has been partially offset by the growth in domestic demand. The ethanol industry continues to increase its corn purchases, helping to limit the pressure of the higher supply on prices," assess the Institute's technicians.
As for cotton, the harvest advanced 4.75 percentage points in the week, reaching 13.11% of the total cultivated in the state, an index that is 7.86 percentage points lower than the average of the last five years. The expectation is that work will intensify in the next two weeks.
"This delay mainly reflects the postponement of the start of fieldwork due to the rains recorded in mid-June 2026," explains Imea.
"Although the June 2026 rains did not significantly compromise cotton productivity, there were reports of losses in fiber quality, a factor that has generated concern among cotton farmers," the survey adds.
