Dairy exports fall in January and the deficit exceeds US$71 million.

Brazilian dairy exports totaled 4.30 million liters of milk equivalent (EqL) in January 2026, a decrease of 16.75% compared to December 2025. Imports, on the other hand, increased by 7.94% in the same period, totaling 178.53 million liters EqL.

Compared to January 2025, both exports and imports decreased by 11.431% and 14.32%, respectively. The data comes from the Secretariat of Foreign Trade (Secex) and was analyzed by Cepea.

As a result, the dairy trade deficit reached 174.24 million liters EqL in January, a volume 8.7% higher than that recorded in the previous month. In monetary terms, the negative balance was US$ 71.68 million, an increase of 11.1%, also according to Secex.

On the import side, powdered milk accounted for 75.6% of the total acquired by Brazil abroad. Purchases of this product grew by 4.93% in January, reaching 134.90 million liters EqL. The average price was US$3.29 per kilogram, a decrease of 1.4% compared to December.

Cheese imports, which accounted for 23.8% of the total, increased by 17.85% compared to the previous month. The average price rose by 4.3%, to US$10.08 per kilogram.

Among the exported products, condensed milk and cheeses had the largest share of shipments in January, with 29.21 TP4T and 36.31 TP4T of the total, respectively. External sales of condensed milk decreased by 11.461 TP4T compared to December, totaling 1.25 million liters EqL.
