The opening of the Malaysian market to liquid and powdered eggs produced in Brazil was recently announced, while the sector projects a resumption of exports this year.
However, the industry is feeling the effects of high summer temperatures, a situation that affects productivity, reduces egg laying, and in some cases, increases bird losses. "Again, we will face some difficulties that could gradually affect the egg market, reflecting in the short term in a possible decrease in supply," comments José Eduardo dos Santos, executive president of Asgav.
The sector has the capacity to meet both domestic and international demand; however, at certain times of the year, some measures are necessary to ensure the continuation of activity.
The extended Christmas and New Year's holiday, collective vacations, and recesses partially reduced egg consumption, but a recovery in purchases and increased demand has been seen since the first working Monday of the year, January 5th, when many people have already returned from their end-of-year holidays.
In addition to returning from the holiday weekend, resuming diets and a more balanced nutrition plan with eggs, salads, and omelets is essential for restoring nutritional balance.
According to the head of Asgav, the sector is experiencing a period of heightened awareness due to the heat, which affects productivity. With the resumption of purchases, consumption, and exports, there may be a slight decrease in supply, without posing a risk to the egg supply for the population.
