The Gross Value of Production (VBP) of Rio Grande do Sul closed 2025 at R$ 98.4 billion, according to data from the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa) released on November 21. The result represents a decrease of 6.5% compared to the R$ 105.2 billion registered in 2024, reducing the state's share of the national VBP from 8.30% to 6.97%.
The main contributor to this contraction is the sharp reduction in the VBP (Value of Agricultural Production) of soybeans, which fell from R$ 37.58 billion in 2024 to R$ 27.76 billion in 2025, a nominal decrease of 26%. As soybeans are the most important product in the state, their decline explains a large part of the total VBP decrease. Other products that registered negative variation include rice, which fell slightly (from R$ 16.50 billion to R$ 16.13 billion), and crops such as grapes, cassava, and potatoes.
On the other hand, some important sectors prevented an even greater decline. Pig farming grew from R$ 9.78 billion to R$ 11.01 billion (+12.7%), while broiler farming advanced from R$ 9.91 billion to R$ 10.52 billion (+6.2%). Beef revenue also increased, from R$ 6.29 billion to R$ 7.72 billion (+22.7%). These increases helped to cushion the loss caused by crops.
The composition of the VBP (Value of Agricultural Production) in Rio Grande do Sul shows a diversified profile, with crops accounting for 59% of the total and livestock for 41%. In 2025, the decline in crops prevailed, but the growth in animal proteins played an important role in containing the losses.
In the historical period 2018/2025, the state's VBP (Value of Production) fluctuated between R$$ 88.9 billion and R$$ 129.1 billion, ending 2025 at R$$ 98.4 billion. It is important to highlight that all values presented are nominal, without adjusting for inflation; therefore, part of the variations throughout the period reflects price changes and not exclusively changes in production volume.
