Brazil conquers new market for export of ornamental fish

Brazilian agribusiness has just secured another international trade opportunity. Negotiations between the governments of Brazil and Uruguay for the export of live ornamental fish to the neighboring country have been concluded. The announcement marks another step forward in expanding the country's export agenda and reinforces the potential of Brazilian biodiversity in the foreign market. With this new opening, Brazil has now reached the milestone of 387 markets open to agricultural products since the beginning of 2023.

In 2024, Brazilian exports of agricultural products to Uruguay will have already exceeded US$1,500,000. The main items on the list include meat, forestry products, tea, mate, and spices. The inclusion of ornamental fish in this scenario paves the way for expanding trade flows with a country that is already among the sector's relevant partners.

Brazil is internationally recognized for its diversity of ornamental fish species, a factor that positions the country with a competitive advantage in this market niche. The new opening, therefore, represents a strategic opportunity for producers and exporters to expand their business opportunities, adding value to Brazilian biodiversity.
