Pig reproduction grows in Paraná and exports support the rise in beef prices

Paraná's pig farming has seen significant growth in breeding animals. According to data from the Department of Rural Economy (Deral), this segment saw a 33.9% increase, with highlights including the Gross Production Value (GVP) of female pigs, which grew 5.5% to R$668.4 million, and that of male breeders, which rose 145% to R$395.5 million in 2024.

According to analyst Priscila Marcenovicz, the figures reinforce the strategic importance of pig breeding in the state's economy. Ouro Verde do Oeste leads the state rankings, with 21.6% of production, followed by Toledo (16.7%) and São Pedro do Iguaçu (8.9%).

In the beef sector, exports continue to support meat prices. In August, Brazil shipped 295,000 tons, generating US$1.6 billion. The product was traded at US$1.50/kg, higher than the US$1.50/kg recorded in the same period last year. Domestic prices also remain firm: in the wholesale market in Paraná, forequarters were sold at R$1.50/kg and hindquarters at R$1.50/kg, respectively, up 32% and 15%, compared to 2024.

Lower cost chicken

The production cost of live chicken raised in climate-controlled poultry houses fell slightly in Paraná. According to the Poultry and Swine Intelligence Center (CIAS/Embrapa), the average price of R$ 4.59/kg in August was 0.2% lower than in July, but 1.3% higher than in August 2024. Even so, the state maintains lower costs than Santa Catarina (R$ 5.08/kg) and Rio Grande do Sul (R$ 5.04/kg).

In 2025, ICPFrango recorded a negative variation of 4.09%, reflecting the decrease in spending on feed and genetics, although there was an increase in electricity costs. Poultry feed, the main cost component, was R$ 2.94/kg, representing 64.05% of the total—3.97% lower than the previous year.

The average nominal price of live chicken to the producer was R$ 4.92/kg in August, a decrease of 1.8% compared to July, but 6% above the value practiced in 2024, indicating stability and competitiveness in the poultry industry in Paraná.
