Strong demand and high exports are driving up pork prices in Brazil.

After remaining relatively stable for almost six weeks, the prices of live pigs and also of meat traded in the wholesale market have rebounded in recent days.

According to researchers at Cepea, prices were influenced by the traditional increase in demand at the beginning of the month. On the international front, with increased volumes shipped to Japan and Mexico, Brazilian pork exports reached the second highest amount in history in October – surpassed only by the record registered in the previous month.

According to data from Secex, in October, 142,700 tons of pork were shipped, a volume 5% below the record of September/25 (of 150,000 tons), but 10% above that of October/24.

In the first 10 months of the year, Brazilian meat shipments totaled more than 1.25 million tons, approximately 13% above the amount exported from January to October 2024 and a record for the period.
