The National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) issued a series of alerts indicating a high risk of heavy rain and storms between this Friday (13) and Saturday (14), mainly in the Southern Region of the country. The warnings also cover specific areas of the Southeast and Midwest.
The most significant warning concerns accumulated rainfall of a very high danger level, valid from 9:30 AM this Friday until 12:00 PM on Saturday. The forecast indicates volumes exceeding 60 millimeters per hour or above 100 millimeters per day, with a high risk of flooding and river overflows, especially in municipalities with vulnerable areas.
The red alert focuses on the northern coast of Santa Catarina and eastern Paraná, encompassing regions such as Greater Florianópolis, the Itajaí Valley, northern Santa Catarina, and the Curitiba Metropolitan Area.
For Saturday (14), from 00:01 to 23:59, Inmet also published a storm warning with a degree of danger. Rainfall between 30 and 60 mm/h or 50 to 100 mm/day is expected, accompanied by winds of 60 to 100 km/h and the possibility of hail. There is a risk of interruptions in the supply of electricity, damage to crops, falling trees and new flooding points. This alert covers a large part of Paraná and Santa Catarina.
Throughout Saturday, the storm warning remains in effect, with a potential danger level, forecasting 20 to 30 mm/h or up to 50 mm/day of rain, winds of 40 to 60 km/h, and a chance of hail. The risk is considered low for power outages, agricultural damage, and localized flooding.
This yellow warning extends over a wider area of the South and is advancing in a localized way towards southern São Paulo and regions of Mato Grosso do Sul — areas that are proportionally smaller in relation to the main core of the system, concentrated in the three southern states.
