Celebrated on March 20th, World Agriculture Day honors rural producers and reinforces the importance of a sector essential to the country's economic and social development. The date highlights how agriculture is present in practically all aspects of daily life.
The date draws attention to the essential role of agriculture. Agricultural production goes far beyond the fields and is present in cities as much as on farms. From the clothes we wear to the fuel we use, the relevance of agriculture is perceived daily. The president of the Mato Grosso Soybean and Corn Producers Association (Aprosoja MT), Lucas Costa Beber, highlighted the importance of the sector to the world.
“If agriculture stopped tomorrow, the world would feel it that same day. We talk about harvests, but we're also talking about energy, food, clothing, and jobs. If it stops in the countryside, it stops in the city too. When we think about the countryside, we're talking about renewable energy, generating foreign exchange, exports, and the inflow of capital into the country, in addition to job creation and economic growth,” he emphasized.
As the president pointed out, the Brazilian agricultural sector employed more than 28.58 million people in the last quarter of 2025, according to a survey by the Center for Advanced Studies in Applied Economics (Cepea) of Esalq/USP, in partnership with the Confederation of Agriculture and Livestock of Brazil (CNA).
More than just supplying raw materials, Brazilian agriculture stands out internationally. In Mato Grosso, this strength is even more evident, with a large capacity for production and export. The sector is consolidating itself as one of the main pillars of the national economy and one of the state's main activities.
The result reinforces the role of agriculture not only in food production, but also in generating jobs throughout the entire production chain, from the countryside to the cities.
In terms of food, products like rice, beans, soybeans, and corn are essential and easily recognizable. But the presence of agriculture goes beyond the table. Cotton provides fabric; corn yields fuel, oil, and various other products; soybeans, in addition to food items, are also used to produce animal feed. These are just a few examples of everyday products that originate in the countryside. In Mato Grosso, this is the sector that generates the most income, creates jobs, and contributes most to development.
Present in virtually every moment of daily life, agriculture is one of the pillars that sustain society. The vice-president of Aprosoja MT, Luís Pedro Bier, reinforces that the sector is essential and cannot stop, since everything begins in the field.
“Agriculture doesn’t make headlines every day, but it’s on your table, in your work, and in your routine. If agriculture stopped tomorrow, nobody would be left out. Society doesn’t realize the sector’s responsibility. Everything on your table is grown somewhere. Agriculture cannot stop. It is responsible for driving the economies of entire cities, for more than 201% of the jobs in the country, balancing Brazil’s trade balance, and strengthening a nation that has a vocation for agriculture,” he states.
Aprosoja MT emphasizes that these grains play a fundamental role in the production chain, contributing to food security, energy generation, and economic development. From the countryside to the city, soybeans and corn drive different sectors and help sustain the daily lives of society.
With increasingly efficient production and the use of technology, producers continue to guarantee quality and supply, bringing essential products from the field that are part of the lives of millions of people.
