Initial projections for the 2026/2027 harvest indicate further growth in grain production in the Cerrado region of Bahia, with expectations of increased acreage, high productivity, and more space for crops such as... corn and sorghum.
In soybeans, the region's main crop, the estimated productivity is 71 sacks per hectare and an increase of approximately 41 TP4T in the planted area, which could reach 2.3 million hectares. According to Aiba, 21 TP4T of the area corresponds to the early planting authorized exceptionally by Adab. The consolidated irrigated area reached 455,000 hectares.
Cotton is also expected to end the 2025/2026 harvest with a record result. Projected productivity is 374 arrobas per hectare, compared to 332 arrobas in the previous cycle. Considering the West and Southwest of Bahia, the average increased by more than 10%.
Corn and sorghum are gaining ground with the vertical integration of production. The forecast is for an increase of approximately 12% in the corn area and 11% in the sorghum area, although these numbers may still change depending on the planting calendar and rainfall patterns. In the 2025/2026 harvest, first-crop rainfed corn reached 185 sacks per hectare, while second-crop irrigated corn is estimated at 195 sacks per hectare.
“The council is also concerned with discussing this information with data obtained through technology together with our producers to mitigate these adversities, and especially, from the point of view of the farm gate itself, the rural producer hopes to mitigate any problems, so Aiba, within the institutional scope, together with its technical team, is closely monitoring this beginning of a new productive cycle,” said Orestes Mandelli, president of the Technical Council.
