São Paulo's arroba appreciates and widens price difference with Mato Grosso in September, according to IMEA

Logotipo Notícias Agrícolas

The price of beef cattle per arroba in Mato Grosso registered a slight drop of 0.31%, with an average of R$ 295.98. According to the survey carried out by the Mato Grosso Institute of Agricultural Economics (IMEA), this disparity increased the base differential (MT-SP) to -5.13%, a reduction of 0.66 percentage points compared to August.

The main reason for this difference is the increased supply of finished cattle. This trend has put pressure on beef cattle prices, especially in Mato Grosso, while demand in São Paulo remains stronger, ensuring local appreciation.

Market expectations are that this scenario could change by the end of the year, with the recovery in beef cattle prices, which could narrow the price differential between the two states. The future of this differential will depend on the dynamics between supply and demand in the coming weeks, a crucial period for Brazilian livestock farming.

In the previous week, the price of 12@ lean cattle in the state of Mato Grosso fell 2.89% between the weeks, being quoted on average at R$ 342.60/@, due to lower demand for the category.

The Mato Grosso Institute also highlighted that industries continue with their comfortable slaughter scales, on average at 13.50 working days, an increase of 0.19% in the weekly comparison.

Imea also reported that due to the extension of scales by meatpackers, the price of arroba of fat cattle on a forward basis fell 1.09% last week, being quoted on average at R$ 295.00/@.
