The Brazilian Association of Pig Breeders (ABCS) and the Mato Grosso Pig Breeders Association (Acrismat) received, last Wednesday (29), at Acrismat headquarters, in Cuiabá (MT), a French delegation composed of representatives from FNP (Fédération Nationale Porcine), IFIP (Institut du Porc) and Inaporc. The meeting also included the participation of Embrapa Swine and Poultry and the Mato Grosso Institute of Agricultural Economics (IMEA).
The purpose of the meeting was to strengthen technical exchange between Brazil and France, promoting the sharing of experiences and dialogue on the sustainable development of pig farming, as well as bringing together representative institutions of the sector in both countries.
Opening the dialogue with the French representatives, the president of ABCS, Marcelo Lopes, highlighted the organization's 70-year history and its collaborative work with the 13 state associations that make up the ABCS system, emphasizing the importance of the institution's technical, political, and marketing activities, aimed at strengthening domestic pork consumption.
Following this, the technical director of ABCS, Charli Ludtke, presented the technical and sanitary overview of Brazilian pig farming, highlighting the country's advances in animal health and the strategic importance of the Cananéia Quarantine Station (EQC) for the protection of the national herd. Charli reinforced the international recognition of Brazil's sanitary status, currently free from the main diseases with economic impact on pig farming, which consolidates the country as a world reference in biosecurity and responsible production.
Next, Everton Krabbe, a researcher from Embrapa Swine and Poultry, presented an overview of swine farming, highlighting the sector's main indicators. He addressed production models, cost composition, and market dynamics, also emphasizing sustainability initiatives. Finally, Acrismat and IMEA shared a general overview of swine farming and agribusiness in Mato Grosso and its role in the national context.
The visit of the French delegation reinforced the strategic relevance of Brazilian pig farming on the world stage. Currently, Brazil is consolidating its position as the 4th largest pork producer in the world, with production exceeding 5.3 million tons and 57.8 million head slaughtered in 2024. The country also occupies the 3rd position in the global ranking of exporters, allocating 23% of national production to the external market, which corresponds to 1.3 million tons exported to 129 international markets.
These results reflect the strength, competitiveness, and commitment of Brazilian pig farming to efficiency, health, and sustainability, consolidating the sector as one of the pillars of the national agribusiness.
Technical visit to Nutribrás
Concluding the program, the French delegation conducted a technical visit to the Nutribras meat processing plant in Sorriso (MT) on October 30th. During the visit, the representatives were able to closely observe the operation of the slaughter and processing lines. The meeting provided an important exchange of experiences between French and Brazilian professionals, strengthening the technical dialogue on innovation and quality in the swine production chain. At the end, the delegation expressed their gratitude for the reception and highlighted Brazilian swine farming as a model of a modern production system.
