Grain harvest is estimated at 332.9 million tons

Grain production in the country in the 2024/25 harvest is expected to increase by 35.4 million tons over the previous cycle, and should reach 332.9 million tons. The volume, if confirmed, sets a new record for the historical series of the National Supply Company (Conab). The cultivated area is also expected to grow by around 2.2%, estimated at 81.7 million hectares, as is the average productivity of crops, which tends to show a recovery of 9.5% projected at 4,074 kilos per hectare. The data are in the 8th Survey of the 2024/25 Grain Harvest published this Thursday (15) by the Company.

Among the cultivated products, soybeans stand out with an estimated harvest volume of 168.3 million tons, the largest ever recorded for the grain in the country's history. The harvest of the oilseed has already reached 98.5% of the sown area, and work has already been completed in the states of the Central-West, Southeast, Paraná and Tocantins. In Minas Gerais, São Paulo, Goiás, Mato Grosso, Bahia, Rondônia and Tocantins, the productivity achieved was a record in the Conab historical series. These excellent yields were a reflection of favorable weather conditions and the high degree of professionalism of the producers.

Another important crop in the Brazilian harvest, corn has an estimated total production of 126.9 million tons, an increase of 9.9% compared to the 2023/24 season. The 1st crop of the grain has been harvested in 77.6% of the sown area, with an estimated production of 24.7 million tons. The 2nd crop of the cereal has already been sown. Conab expects production of around 99.8 million tons. Good weather conditions in the main producing regions have been favoring crops, with the flowering and grain filling stages predominating.

In the case of rice, an important product in the diet of Brazilians, the expectation is a production of 12.1 million tons, an increase of 14.8% in relation to the previous cycle. The good result is a reflection of a larger sown area, reaching 1.7 million hectares, combined with an improvement of 7.4% in the average productivity of the crops, reaching 7,071 kilos per hectare. For beans, Conab expects that at the end of the three harvests of the legume, 3.2 million tons will be harvested, which guarantees domestic supply.

Another prominent product in the second harvest, cotton, has also completed sowing, with an estimated area of 2.1 million hectares, an increase of 7.2% over the 2023/24 harvest. For production, a harvest of 3.9 million tons of cotton is expected, 5.5% above the volume produced in the previous harvest. The weather in the main producing states has been favoring the crops, which are from the flowering stage to the beginning of the harvest.

Among winter crops, wheat sowing has already begun in the states of the Center-West, Southeast and Paraná. Planting work has already reached 26% of the area planned for grain cultivation in the state of Paraná. In Rio Grande do Sul, sowing has not yet begun. Conab's production estimate for the cereal indicates a volume of 8.3 million tons for the 2025 harvest, an increase of 4.6% over the previous cycle.

In this survey, Conab made adjustments to the corn supply framework. National consumption of the grain is estimated to expand to 89.3 million tons in the 2024/25 harvest. This review was carried out based on the prospect of growth in corn ethanol production, amid greater domestic availability of the grain in the second half of 2025. Exports were maintained at 34 million tons and the final stock of the harvest was adjusted to 7.1 million tons.

In the case of soybeans, the prospect of record production in the oilseed harvest allows for a slight increase in exports, approaching 106 million tons.

Further information on cultivation and market conditions for the main crops grown in the country can be found in the 8th Grain Harvest Survey 2024/25, published on the Conab website.
