President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva defended, on Thursday (23), the sophistication of Brazilian agricultural products to conquer more international markets. Lula highlighted the diversity and large-scale production in the country, but said that it is also necessary to value quality.
“We know that it’s not enough to just produce. To gain market share, we need to produce with excellent quality. It’s no use producing something rustic, because that’s very good for me, but when you want to compete internationally, it’s not easy,” he said at an event of the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (Embrapa). “The more sophisticated we are, the more market share we gain, and we will compete with the most sophisticated markets. We have the technology, we have the workforce, and we have the expertise,” added the president.
The opening of the Brazil on the Table Fair at the Embrapa Cerrados unit, in Planaltina, in the Federal District. Until next Saturday (25), the event presents technologies, products and experiences developed from agricultural research in the country.
The 53rd anniversary of Embrapa, a public company whose objective is to transform knowledge into solutions for different agricultural production chains, was also celebrated.
The company's president, Silvia Massruhá, highlighted that for every R$ invested in Embrapa, R$ 27 are returned to society. The company has 43 units and a portfolio of 2,000 technologies.
To determine this profit, the economic, environmental, and social impacts of 200 of these technologies were evaluated. “The GDP, Gross Domestic Product, the sum of the wealth produced by agriculture in 2025 was R$ 725 billion, and Embrapa contributed R$ 125 billion. Therefore, it is important to recognize the role of science and technology in the agricultural GDP today,” he added.
