Paraná is expected to produce 13.9% of Brazil's total grain harvest, according to the Systematic Survey of Agricultural Production (LSPA) by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE). This represents an increase compared to the December projection, which indicated a share of 13.5%. Historically, the state is the second largest producer in Brazil, behind only Mato Grosso, which accounts for 30.3%. Rio Grande do Sul (11.8%), Goiás (10.6%), and Mato Grosso do Sul (7.6%) are the other major producers.
This increase in participation stems from a positive variation in the production forecast of 213,800 tons, the third highest in the country in January, behind Mato Grosso (2,046,117 t) and Goiás (557,473 t). Negative variations occurred in Piauí (-76,711 t), Ceará (-49,796 t), and Rio de Janeiro (-508 t). The comparison is with the previous forecast, from December.
One of the factors is the prospect of increased soybean production. Paraná, with a production of 22.2 million tons, is expected to have the second largest harvest volume in the country, with growth of 0.3% compared to the 3rd forecast and 3.9% compared to the volume harvested in 2025. The estimate for national oilseed production reached a new record in the historical series in 2026, totaling 172.5 million tons, an increase of 1.3% compared to the 3rd forecast and 3.9% higher compared to the amount obtained in the previous year.
Regarding the second corn crop, a product for which Paraná is the second largest producer, the state obtained an estimated production of 17.4 million tons, accounting for 16.5% of the national total and being 0.7% higher than the 3rd forecast. The national estimate for second corn crop production was 105.2 million tons, an increase of 0.6% compared to the 3rd forecast.
Paraná is also the largest national producer of beans, forecasting 736,500 tons or a 24.21% share of 4T, followed by Minas Gerais with 514,100 tons and a 16.91% share of 4T, and Goiás with 365,800 tons or a 12.01% share of 4T.
Among the regions, the volume of cereal, legume, and oilseed production is concentrated in the Central-West, 167.5 million tons (48.9%); South, 95.3 million tons (27.8%); Southeast, 30.2 million tons (8.8%); Northeast, 28.2 million tons (8.2%); and North, 21.5 million tons (6.3%). The most recent production estimate showed the South region leading with an increase of 10.4%, followed by the Northeast with 1.8%.
