The Goiás Agricultural Defense Agency (Agrodefesa) informs that the official deadline for the mandatory declaration of all livestock existing on rural properties spread across the 246 municipalities of Goiás begins next Thursday (01/05). The declaration must be made through the Goiás Agricultural Defense System (Sidago), using a login and password exclusive to the property owner.
Agrodefesa's guidance is that the data included in the declaration be compatible with the reality of the property, including registration, number of animals, deaths, births and herd evolution. In this first stage, as stated in Ordinance No. 246/2025, livestock farmers have until June 30 to enter the data into Sidago. The declaration is made twice a year, the first in May and June and the second from November to December.
“This is a fundamental tool for maintaining control and health surveillance up to date. With updated data, we can act quickly and assertively in the face of any health incident, in addition to planning health measures and agricultural defense in the state,” says Agrodefesa’s Animal Health Manager, Denise Toledo.
Vaccination
The last mandatory vaccination campaign against rabies for herbivores will also begin on May 1st in 119 municipalities considered to be at high risk for the disease in the state of Goiás. Animals of all ages of the bovine, buffalo, equine (horse, mule and donkey), goat and sheep species must be immunized by June 15th of this year.
Vaccination also complies with the guidelines of Ordinance No. 246/2025, published by Agrodefesa, and will be the last mandatory vaccination. As of July of this year, immunization will become strategic, as defined by Normative Instruction No. 01/2025. In this new phase, immunization will only be required on properties with a confirmed focus of the disease and recommended in perifocal areas, within a radius of up to 12 kilometers from the focus.
Vaccines against rabies for herbivores must be purchased from retailers registered with Agrodefesa between April 29 and June 15. The retailers are responsible for maintaining computerized control of the entry and exit of vaccines through Sidago, in addition to ensuring adequate storage and refrigeration of the products.
“It is essential that resellers strictly comply with technical and legal criteria. Inspections will be carried out weekly by the Official Veterinary Service, which is Agrodefesa, and non-compliance may result in penalties provided for by law,” warns the Agency's Director of Agricultural Defense, Rafael Vieira. For vaccines purchased outside Goiás, the producer must present an electronic invoice as proof.
Be careful with animal health
The president of Agrodefesa, José Ricardo Caixeta Ramos, emphasizes that the producer from Goiás is already familiar with the calendars for declaring livestock and immunizing against rabies established in Goiás, but it is necessary to reinforce the deadlines to ensure animal health in the State.
“Everyone has complied with the legislation regarding reporting the number of animals they own and vaccinating herbivores in municipalities with a high risk of rabies. However, it is the Agency’s role, through guidance and health education, to reinforce the dates and inform how to proceed to carry out the processes. Goiás is now a reference in livestock farming and this is largely due to the commitment of producers to maintain animal health and the work carried out by agricultural defense professionals,” he highlights.
