The Southwest region of Paraná enters the soybean health gap period last Thursday (12), according to the schedule defined by the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa). The measure will continue until September 10, with the release for planting the oilseed from September 11, ending on January 10, 2026.
During the sanitary break, it is forbidden to cultivate or maintain live soybean plants in the field. The objective is to prevent the plant from becoming a host for the fungus that causes Asian rust (Phakopsora pachyrhizi), considered the main soybean disease due to its severity, ease of spread, high control costs and potential to harm productivity.
In Paraná, the sanitary gap was divided into three distinct regions, considering the state's different microclimates. The division was defined by Mapa to establish the most suitable planting periods and reduce the spread of the fungus.
The Paraná Agricultural Defense Agency (Adapar), linked to the State Secretariat of Agriculture and Supply (Seab), is responsible for monitoring compliance with the measure. The agency must apply the penalties provided for in the legislation to producers who maintain live soybean plants during the prohibited period. Adapar is also responsible for monitoring compliance with the planting calendar.
The Adapar Plant Health Department (DESV) emphasizes that the effectiveness of the measure depends on the adherence of all farmers. The guidance is that any live soybean plants should be eliminated immediately if they are detected on the properties.
