Representatives from the Agro MT Forum and the Mato Grosso Agricultural Parliamentary Front (FPA-MT) met on Tuesday (24), at the Clóves Vettorato building, in Cuiabá, to discuss strengthening the Municipal Inspection Services (SIM) and organizing the State Meeting of Municipal Inspection Services. The objective is to advance sanitary regulation and expand the possibilities of marketing products of animal origin in the state and outside of it.
During the meeting, the manager of support for Family Farming at AMM, Nathacha de Carvalho Luiz, presented data indicating that 91 municipalities already have a structured Municipal Inspection Service, while 51 still do not have such a service. Challenges related to hiring veterinarians and consolidating intermunicipal consortia as a strategy to expand the coverage and efficiency of sanitary inspection were also discussed.
Direct impact on production
State Representative Ondanir Bortolini, known as Nininho, emphasized the importance of the agenda for the state's economic development. According to him, enabling proper licensing for the commercialization of products of animal origin is a measure that benefits producers of all sizes.
“What we are addressing here is providing the legal conditions for producers to sell their products safely and within the law. When the inspection seal obtains state backing, the product's origin is guaranteed, and it can be sold throughout Mato Grosso,” he stated.
Nininho also highlighted the practical implications of the measure in sectors such as fish farming. He explained that, since there are few companies with the necessary sanitary authorization, producers face difficulties in finding buyers for their fish, which reduces the value of the product and, in some cases, makes it impossible to even remove the fish from the tanks. "With regularization, we open up markets, add value, and strengthen the entire production chain," he pointed out.
Strengthening pig farming
The president of the Mato Grosso Pig Breeders Association (Acrismat), Frederico Tannure Filho, advocated for the expansion and improvement of the inspection system as a strategic step for the growth of the pig farming industry in the state.
He highlighted that Mato Grosso has a strong productive vocation, but faces limitations due to the restricted reach of its commercialization. “We have production capacity, but our domestic market is smaller than the volume we produce. Without a structured and integrated system, our industries are limited to selling only within the state, which hinders growth,” he explained.
Regional integration and Sisbi
The executive director of the Mato Grosso Agro Forum, Xisto Bueno, pointed out that in Brazil, the sale of animal products depends on obtaining inspection seals—municipal, state, or federal—depending on the scope of the sale. In Mato Grosso, according to him, there are still obstacles that hinder market expansion, especially for small producers.
Bueno highlighted as an important step forward the coordination to ensure the validity of the municipal seal within regional consortia, allowing the circulation of products between neighboring municipalities. "It makes no sense for a product manufactured in Cuiabá not to be sold in Várzea Grande. This limitation harms the producer and the local economy," he exemplified.
He also emphasized the importance of adhering to the Brazilian System for Inspection of Products of Animal Origin (Sisbi-POA), which authorizes commercialization throughout the country. "When we expand our reach to the national market, we create new opportunities, stimulate investment, and strengthen small and medium-sized meat processing plants," he highlighted.
Next steps
Organizing the State Meeting of Municipal Inspection Services was highlighted as a strategic action to align municipalities, share experiences, and seek joint solutions to increase the system's efficiency.
The expectation is that, with greater integration between municipalities, consortia, and the state government, Mato Grosso will advance in consolidating a more comprehensive and efficient sanitary inspection model, capable of boosting agro-industrialization, guaranteeing food safety, and increasing the competitiveness of the productive sector.
