The Mid-West region of Santa Catarina is heading towards a corn harvest with high productivity. A preliminary survey from the 2025/26 Crop Tour indicates an average yield of 204.1 sacks per hectare, with the municipality of Irani standing out, registering the highest productivity in the region with 234 sacks per hectare. To date, 63 farms have been evaluated, out of a total of 82 rural properties in the region.
The numbers were presented at the last stage of the 3rd edition of Giro da Safra, held in Campos Novos last Wednesday (25). During the event, partial results of the collections carried out in the region were presented. Following this, the public attended a lecture by researcher Joanei Cechin, from the Epagri Experimental Station in Campos Novos, who spoke about corn cultivation and the management of resistant plants.
The initiative is led by Epagri/Cepa, in partnership with Sicoob, and aims to gather technical field information on crop management and productivity. This data serves as a basis for producers' decision-making and for planning strategic actions aimed at developing agribusiness in Santa Catarina.
Besides Irani, other municipalities showed performance above the regional average. Joaçaba reached 220 sc/ha, Concórdia had 218 sc/ha, Campos Novos reached 215 sc/ha, Luzerna totaled 214 sc/ha, and Ibicaré registered 213 sc/ha. Among the other municipalities evaluated, the average productivities were 203 sc/ha in Jaborá, 201 sc/ha in Fraiburgo, 199 sc/ha in Tangará, 196 sc/ha in Ouro, 190 sc/ha in Abdon Batista, 187 sc/ha in Lacerdópolis, 182 sc/ha in Caçador, and 177 sc/ha in Seara and Erval Velho.
Epagri maintains close contact with rural producers and reinforces the role of technical knowledge in strengthening agriculture in the Mid-West region of Santa Catarina. “These data reflect technical monitoring in the field, with direct evaluation of crops, which guarantees a more realistic reading of the harvest. The Crop Management Program plays a strategic role by transforming technical information into decisions, assisting producers in adjusting management practices, guiding rural credit, and supporting public policies aimed at the development of regional agribusiness,” emphasizes the president of Epagri, Dirceu Leite.

The Crop Tour is one of the main tools for technical monitoring of corn production in Santa Catarina. The first stage took place in February in São Miguel do Oeste, and it already indicated that the average regional productivity should exceed 200 sacks per hectare, with significant results also in municipalities in the far west of the state.
During the visits, Epagri's technical teams evaluated the crops in situ and sent the samples to the Campos Novos Experimental Station, where detailed processing and analysis took place. The survey included indicators such as moisture and grain quantity, as well as information on crop management, soil management, compaction, plantability, and cultivars used.
Throughout the 3rd edition of the Crop Tour, teams visited 169 rural properties in 26 municipalities in the far west and midwest of Santa Catarina. Precise data was collected directly in the field, on more than 160 properties in 26 municipalities, evaluating productivity, crop management, and factors that impact yield. This information allows for a reliable picture of the harvest, guiding producers, supporting market decisions, and informing public policies.
