Poultry farming in Mato Grosso do Sul expands investments and strengthens competitiveness in the sector.

Logotipo Notícias AgrícolasThe advancement of poultry farming in Mato Grosso do Sul was highlighted during the 5th Avimasul 2026 Forum, held on Friday (15), within the 60th Expoagro, in Dourados. During the event, the executive secretary of Sustainable Economic Development of Semadesc, Rogério Beretta, presented an overview of the State's economic growth and highlighted actions aimed at expanding the competitiveness of agribusiness, especially the poultry chain.

Also participating in the meeting were the president of Avimasul, Francieli Corneli, the president of the Dourados Rural Union, Gino Ferreira, and the superintendent of Senar/MS, Lucas Galvan. Among the topics discussed were private investments, tax incentives, animal health defense, and strategies for attracting new businesses to the state.

According to Beretta, the Government of Mato Grosso do Sul has been working to strengthen the poultry farming business environment through actions in infrastructure, logistics, sustainability, and institutional support. The executive secretary also highlighted the state's participation in technical events and trade fairs in the sector, in addition to the sanitary measures conducted by Iagro for the prevention of avian influenza.

Industrial expansion boosts poultry sector.

During the presentation, Rogério Beretta reported that companies in the sector have already signaled new investments to expand operations in the state. According to him, Bello should increase its slaughtering capacity in Aparecida do Taboado, while JBS is evaluating increasing daily processing in Caarapó from 60,000 to 90,000 birds.

In addition to industrial expansion, the state government also presented economic incentive measures aimed at integrated producers. These include reducing the ICMS tax rate on electricity used in the activity and prioritizing poultry farming in the financing lines of the Constitutional Fund of the Midwest (FCO).

The data released shows that, in 2024, 35 letters of intent were approved for the segment, totaling R$235.9 million in investments. In 2025, the number reached 26 approved proposals, totaling R$194.5 million. In 2026, seven projects received approval, with R$28.2 million in planned investments.

The "Frango Vida" program strengthens the production chain.

Another highlight presented during the forum was the Frango Vida Program, created in 2022 by a joint resolution of the State Finance Secretariat (Sefaz) and the then-Semagro (Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock, and Rural Development). The initiative seeks to strengthen and modernize the state's poultry chain through tax incentives conditioned on compliance with environmental, sanitary, tax, labor, and associative criteria.

Among the program's objectives are attracting new agro-industries, strengthening cooperatives, encouraging the use of alternative energy on farms, and reducing the exclusion of producers with technological difficulties. According to Beretta, the model provides a basic return of 32% of ICMS (a Brazilian state tax) for producers who meet the mandatory criteria, potentially reaching up to 50% in cases that meet additional requirements.

The executive secretary also highlighted the role of regional associations, such as Avisidro, Avigrand, Aviglória, Avicar, Aviconsul, and AMA, in organizing the sector, supporting sanitary actions, and developing the state plan to strengthen poultry farming.

Frango Vida brings together more than 290 establishments.

The figures presented during Expoagro show the current scope of the Frango Vida Program in Mato Grosso do Sul. In 2025, the state had 291 registered establishments, five participating slaughterhouses, and more than 160 million birds slaughtered, generating R$ 70.4 million in tax incentives.

In 2026, Mato Grosso do Sul maintained its 291 registered establishments and five slaughterhouses integrated into the program. To date, more than 57.2 million birds have been slaughtered, with R$ 24.7 million in incentives granted. The average value of the benefit remained at R$ 0.41 per bird.

In the regional distribution of registered farms, the municipalities of Sidrolândia, Dourados, Itaquiraí, Fátima do Sul, Caarapó, and Glória de Dourados continue to concentrate a large part of the state's production, consolidating the southern region as the main poultry hub of Mato Grosso do Sul.

Modernization of farms is gaining ground.

Beretta also presented examples of investments made by producers using the incentives received. These improvements included the implementation of alternative energy systems, modernization of feeding equipment, adjustments to the environment of poultry houses, and actions aimed at improving working conditions and quality of life in rural areas.

According to the executive secretary, the set of public policies implemented by the State has contributed to increasing productivity, strengthening sanitary safety, and enhancing the competitiveness of poultry farming in Mato Grosso do Sul in the national market.
