The harvest of the 2025/26 second corn crop has begun in Mato Grosso and is progressing slightly ahead of the previous cycle. According to the new bulletin published by the Mato Grosso Institute of Agricultural Economics (Imea), as of May 22nd, work had reached 0.57% of the estimated area for the state.
Despite the still low percentage at the start of the harvest, the progress is 0.26 percentage points ahead of that recorded in the same period of the previous harvest. According to the institute, this indicates a gradual anticipation of operations in some producing regions.
The survey shows that the Mid-North region of Mato Grosso is leading the harvest pace at the start of the 2025/26 crop season. By May 22nd, the region had already reached 1.18% of harvested area, the highest rate among all regions of the state. The weekly progress was also the most significant, with an increase of 0.83 percentage points compared to the previous week.
According to Imea, the corn harvest should intensify during the month of June, both due to reduced rainfall in the coming weeks and more crops becoming ready for harvest. The main factors determining the harvest include the physiological maturity of the grain, moisture content, and the overall condition of the plant.
Furthermore, this slight anticipation of the harvest in the state may directly influence transportation and storage logistics, especially in regions with higher production concentration, where there is traditionally an increase in truck traffic and movement in export corridors during the peak of the harvest season.
According to a projection by Imea, published this May, Mato Grosso is expected to cultivate approximately 7.39 million hectares of corn in the 2025/26 harvest, once again consolidating the state as the largest national producer of the cereal.
The Supply and Demand Report also indicates that the estimated productivity is 118.71 sacks per hectare, suggesting an improvement in the crop's productive potential.
