The rain gives a brief respite in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro this week, but the weather should become unstable again from Sunday (20). According to data released by Meteored, a new cold front, associated with the formation of a cyclone, should increase the conditions for heavy rain, thunderstorms and storms in both states.
Areas of instability will still cause rain showers and thunderstorms between this Tuesday (15) and Wednesday morning (16). From Wednesday afternoon onwards, however, rainfall will decrease considerably in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.
Even with reduced rainfall, the coastal areas of São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro will still experience considerable cloud cover in the coming days. There is a possibility of isolated light rain or drizzle, with periods of sunshine and predominantly overcast skies and mild temperatures.
In the second half of the week, the city of São Paulo should have stable weather and partly cloudy skies, with the possibility of sunshine at some points during the day.
In Rio de Janeiro, the forecast indicates rain with thunderstorms this Wednesday (16). On Thursday (17) and Friday (18), the sky should remain cloudy, with a small possibility of light rain.
The truce, however, should be short. According to data released by Meteored, a new cold front will form and increase the conditions for heavy rain and storms throughout Sunday (20), initially in São Paulo.
On Sunday morning, areas in southern São Paulo should already experience moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms. During the afternoon, the instability should intensify and spread to other regions of the state.
Moderate to locally heavy rainfall is expected, with a risk of thunderstorms. The possibility of thunderstorms remains at night, but is more concentrated in northern São Paulo.
In the city of São Paulo, the forecast for Sunday (20) indicates light and continuous rain during the day, with partly cloudy skies.
Early next week, the cold front is also expected to bring heavy rain and a risk of storms to Rio de Janeiro. The system is further strengthened by the formation of a new frontal system.
For Monday (21), according to data released by Meteored, the forecast indicates the possibility of storms throughout the state of São Paulo and in the south of Rio de Janeiro, including the capitals.
Starting Tuesday (22), a second frontal system should form near the coast of the Southern Region and move towards the Southeast. The system's activity should reinforce the rain conditions in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.
The scenario predicted for the next few days, therefore, is a temporary reduction in rainfall, followed by the return of instability and the risk of storms from Sunday (20).
