Abiarroz: Brazil exports 62.5 thousand tons of rice in February

Brazil exported 62.5 thousand tons of rice (husk base) in February, with revenue of US$$ 21.6 million. The report is released monthly by the Brazilian Rice Industry Association (Abiarroz), based on data from the Ministry of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services (MDIC).

The volume exported last month fell 43.6% compared to the same period in 2024, when shipments totaled 110.8 thousand tons. There was also a drop in revenue, of 36.8%.

Regarding imports, Brazil purchased 152.2 thousand tons of rice (husk base) last month, with an outlay of US$1.5T. There was a drop of US$46.2 million in imports compared to the amount purchased in the same month of 2024.

Processed rice

Shipments of processed rice by the industry abroad totaled 22.5 thousand tons in February 2025, with revenue corresponding to US$11.4 million. In volume, the decline was 68.9% compared to the same period of the previous year; in revenue, there was a drop of 54%.

“The new crop began to be harvested in late February and early March. Therefore, there was still not much availability of the product last month, considering that the previous year’s harvest was smaller. This was the main reason for the drop in Brazilian exports,” says Gustavo Trevisan, director of International Affairs at Abiarroz.

The main destinations for processed rice exports in February were Peru, Cuba, Cape Verde, Saudi Arabia, Uruguay, Trinidad and Tobago, the United States, Panama, São Tomé and Príncipe, and Curaçao. In terms of value, Peru stood out, to which around 10.6 thousand tons of the cereal were shipped, at a price of US$$ 5.3 million.
