Chicken prices rise in September as exports resume

Cepea surveys show that, for the first time since the bird flu outbreak on a commercial farm in Brazil in May, average chicken meat prices are rising compared to the previous month.

According to the Research Center, in the partial of September (until the 24th), frozen chicken is traded wholesale in Greater São Paulo at an average of R$ 7.40/kg, 6.3% above that of August, but still below the R$ 8.60/kg of May/25.

Researchers explain that the recovery in values is linked above all to the resurgence of Brazilian poultry exports throughout this month, which has helped to reduce domestic supply.

The return of sales to the European Union in the second half of this month – shipments to the bloc had been suspended since May – as well as the expectation of a resumption of shipments to China reinforce the optimism of the national sector.
