The purchasing power of São Paulo poultry farmers compared to corn fell in February, according to surveys by Cepea.
According to the Research Center, this is due to the strong appreciation of the input in the domestic market combined with the weakening of live chicken prices.
The Esalq/BM&FBovespa Corn Indicator (Campinas – SP) averaged R$ 80.76/60 kg bag in February, an increase of 8.9% compared to January. In addition to the greater presence of buyers in the spot market, logistical difficulties and low domestic stocks explain the increases in cereal prices.
In the chicken market, Cepea collaborators reported a weakening in demand for batches of animals in some periods of the month, which put pressure on prices in the monthly balance.
On average in the regions of São Paulo, chicken was traded at R$ 5.37/kg in February, a drop of 2.4% compared to January.
