Unseasonal rains favor green bridge and raise alert for pre-planting management

Farmers in various regions of Brazil have completed the corn harvest and are awaiting the end of the sanitary drought to begin planting the 2025/26 soybean crop. Sporadic rainfall occurred during the off-season, causing increased weed emergence.

This scenario requires producers to pay greater attention to weed management before soybean planting. In several regions of Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, and Goiás, the need to anticipate desiccation is already a reality to ensure clearer areas for planting.

According to agricultural engineer Vinícius Boleta, farmers' attention at this stage is crucial to the success of the harvest. "If producers don't get desiccation right, soybeans will begin the cycle competing with weeds, losing production potential. Furthermore, herbicide options for post-emergence soybean use are much more limited than those for desiccation, which hinders effective control," he emphasizes.

Boleta further emphasizes that producers must carefully assess the stage of weeds and the area's resistance history to select the most appropriate herbicides. The pre-planting period remains a crucial time to reduce risks and promote soybean establishment, so farmers are advised to intensify monitoring of their areas and carry out desiccation in a planned manner, avoiding delays or failures that could compromise crop establishment.
