Soybean and corn exports are expected to increase in early 2026, putting pressure on freight costs in the country.

Soybean exports increased last month along Brazil's main export routes. With approximately 88.11 TP4T of the area harvested for the oilseed, the volumes shipped in the first quarter of 2026 already exceed the amount recorded between January and March 2025 by about 5.921 TP4T. The scenario is similar for corn, which recorded an accumulated total of around 15.251 TP4T above that verified for exports in the same period of the previous year. For the first corn crop, the harvest has already surpassed half of the planted area.

The report also indicates that the Central-West and South regions were the largest exporters of grains to the international market, predominantly from the state of Mato Grosso. For soybeans, shipments through the Northern Arc reached 391 TP4T in the quarter, followed by the port of Santos (SP), with 36.21 TP4T, and the port of Paranaguá (PR), with 18.31 TP4T. For cereals, the Northern Arc also predominated, accounting for 34.91 TP4T of the accumulated quarterly volume. Following this, the port of Santos handled 29.11 TP4T of exports, followed by the port of Rio Grande (RS), with 161 TP4T.

The movement of the harvests was accompanied by an increase in freight prices on the main routes monitored by the Company. In the Midwest, the highest values were identified in Goiás, which recorded freight rates up to 35% more expensive compared to the previous month on routes departing from Cristalina, in the east of the state. “Despite the fluctuations in fuel prices, it is necessary to consider the good productive performance of soybeans and the volume of cargo in the context of logistical pressure,” assesses the Superintendent of Operational Logistics at Conab, Thomé Guth.

In Mato Grosso, the progress of the soybean harvest in the Araguaia Valley maintained the high transportation costs, which became up to 10% more expensive, a maximum rate also recorded in neighboring Mato Grosso do Sul. In the Federal District, however, the positive variations reached 12%, following the seasonal movement associated with the soybean harvest in the country's largest producing region.

Fuel costs and operational bottlenecks also impacted freight rates in Paraná, with increases of up to 11% in the Ponta Grossa region. In the Southeast region, São Paulo registered the highest values, with freight rates up to 30% higher compared to March. Minas Gerais followed the upward trend, but values did not exceed 10% in the monthly assessment. Specifically for coffee, freight rates became heated again for routes destined for the south of the state.

For the soybean-producing region in western Bahia, prices increased to 19%. Maranhão was the state with the largest positive percentage variation, reaching rates up to 23% higher, with emphasis on soybean outflow in the south of the state. In Piauí, prices tended to be more stable, with a maximum of 8%.

Fertilizers and manures

Fertilizer imports grew in the first quarter of 2026, reaching 8.61 million tons. This figure is approximately 9.13% higher than the accumulated total for the same period last year, ensuring stability for future plantings.

The research analyzed the main transportation routes in the country, covering 10 states. The data is available at [link/website address]. Logistics Bulletin – April/2026.
