Santa Catarina sets historic record for meat exports in September.

Santa Catarina ended the month of September 2025 with record results in meat exports. The state exported 197,700 tons of meat (chicken, pork, turkey, duck, mallard, beef and others), totaling US$438.1 million in revenue, the highest monthly value ever recorded in the historical series, which began in 1997, and the second best performance in quantity.

Compared to August of this year, there was an increase of 29.9% in quantity and 29.5% in revenue. In relation to September 2024, meat shipments grew by 14% in volume and 13.5% in revenue. The figures are released by the Ministry of Development, Industry, Trade and Services (MDIC) and systematized by the Center for Socioeconomics and Agricultural Planning (Epagri/Cepa).

“I have no doubt that what we produce in Santa Catarina is wanted by all countries in the world. It reflects all the support work we have with producers and agribusinesses. There are hundreds of thousands of people from Santa Catarina involved in this production that starts on a small family farm and reaches more than 150 countries,” celebrates Governor Jorginho Mello.

According to the Secretary of State for Agriculture and Livestock, Carlos Chiodini, the numbers reflect the strength of Santa Catarina's agribusiness. "Santa Catarina demonstrates, once again, its ability to react quickly to challenges and maintain the confidence of international markets. These results prove the serious work of the sector and the efficiency of our animal health and the entire production chain," Chiodini emphasizes.

Chicken meat

Chicken meat exports totaled 116,700 tons in September, generating US$232 million. This is the best monthly performance since May 2019, both in volume and revenue. Growth was 30% in quantity and 30.2% in value compared to August. Compared to September 2024, the increases were 10.7% and 4%, respectively.

In the year to date, Santa Catarina exported 874,000 tons of chicken meat, with revenues of US$1.78 billion, representing increases of 2.11% in volume and 6.6% in value. Epagri/Cepa analyst Alexandre Giehl explains that the September volumes also demonstrate the gradual recovery of Brazilian and Santa Catarina exports, following the temporary suspension due to an outbreak of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) on a commercial farm in Rio Grande do Sul – currently declared eradicated.

“Santa Catarina accounted for 25.51% of revenue and 23.31% of the quantity of Brazilian chicken meat exports from January to September, reinforcing its position as the second main exporting state of the product. The state's share has been growing throughout this year, exceeding the levels recorded last year (23.51% of revenue and 20.61% of quantity),” explains Giehl.

From January to September, the main markets were Saudi Arabia, Japan, the Netherlands, and the United Arab Emirates.

Pork

Santa Catarina's pork exports reached their highest monthly value ever recorded in September: US$181.6 million, with 72,300 tons shipped. This volume represents an increase of 28.31% compared to August and 17.7% compared to September 2024. In terms of quantity, this was the second highest volume ever exported by the state, second only to July 2022.

From January to September, Santa Catarina exported 562,200 tons, generating US$1.39 billion in revenue — increases of 6.6% and 14%, respectively, compared to the same period in 2024.

The main markets for pork from Santa Catarina during this period were: Japan, the Philippines, China, Chile, and Mexico. Santa Catarina consolidated its national leadership in pork exports, accounting for 51.51% of the quantity and 52% of the revenue of the country.

Year to date

In the period from January to September 2025, the state exported 1.49 million tons of meat, with revenues of US$3.30 billion — increases of 3.01% in volume and 9.9% in value compared to the same period in 2024. These are the best results ever recorded for the period, both in value and quantity, since the beginning of the historical series in 1997.
