Brazil has received the green light from Guatemalan health authorities to begin exporting beef and beef products to the country.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, the opening of markets has progressed rapidly in recent years. Since 2023, 500 new access points have been secured for Brazilian agribusiness products.
Guatemala, with approximately 18 million inhabitants, has been increasing its demand for animal protein. Between January and October 2025, the country imported over US$192 million worth of Brazilian agricultural products, primarily cereals. Beef imports alone totaled US$155.6 million in 2024, representing about 8.61% of domestic consumption. This amount represents a significant increase compared to previous years, demonstrating the growing opportunity for foreign suppliers.
The opening comes at a time of strong performance for Brazilian beef exports. Brazil maintained its global leadership in 2024, with more than US$$ 12 billion shipped, equivalent to 2.8 million tons sent to more than 150 destinations. In 2025, the pace continues to accelerate: by October, external sales had already exceeded US$$ 14 billion.
For the Guatemalan market, the arrival of Brazilian meat should expand supply, guarantee availability, and meet the needs of local consumers and industries, especially in the frozen cuts segment, which represents more than 70% of the country's imports.
The increase in exports is the result of joint work between the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
