Goiás' leading role in grain production continues in the 2025/26 harvest, according to the 5th Monitoring Bulletin of the Brazilian Grain Harvest, released this week by the National Supply Company (Conab). The state estimate is 35.8 million tons, with a planted area of 7.8 million hectares and an average projected productivity of 4.6 tons per hectare.
The volume puts the state on track for the second-largest harvest in its historical series. After registering record results in the 2024/25 cycle, Goiás should maintain a high level of production, supported by the expansion of the area dedicated to strategic crops and the expected performance of the fields. The state remains among the main national producers, with emphasis on soybeans, corn, sunflower, and sorghum.
Soybeans and corn sustain volume.
Soybeans, the state's main crop, are expected to occupy 5.1 million hectares, representing a growth of 41% compared to the previous harvest. The estimated production is 19.8 million tons, maintaining the oilseed as the basis of Goiás's productive structure and the central axis of the export, industrial processing, and animal protein chains.
In the case of corn, the first harvest shows gains in productivity and production. The planted area totals 149,000 hectares, with an expected production of 1.5 million tons. Considering all harvests, the cereal remains a strategic component of the integration between agriculture and livestock farming, especially as an input for feeding poultry, swine, and confined cattle, in addition to supplying the corn ethanol industry.
Oilseeds and alternative grains are making inroads.
Goiás also maintains its national leadership in sunflower production. The estimated harvest is over 72,000 tons, with the planted area remaining at 47,000 hectares. The crop reinforces agricultural diversification and the supply of raw materials for the vegetable oil industry.
Sorghum is also increasing its importance in the 2025/26 harvest. The planted area should reach 438,100 hectares, with a projected production of 1.6 million tons, a growth of 7.31 TP4T compared to the previous cycle. The grain plays a strategic role in the state's production system, especially in animal feed and in stabilizing supply in regions with lower water availability.
According to the Secretary of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply, Pedro Leonardo Rezende, the performance demonstrates the consistency of Goiás' agriculture. “We are heading towards the second largest harvest in the state's history. After a record cycle, which brought even more prominence to Goiás' production chains, we are now demonstrating the producer's ability to maintain high levels of production and productivity in the field. The 2025/26 harvest figures presented in the survey confirm Goiás' productive capacity and the solidity of our agricultural chains. The combination of technology in the field and efficient management strengthens the state on the national stage and expands income generation in the interior,” he emphasizes.
