The harvest of orange The 2026/27 citrus harvest forecast for the São Paulo citrus belt and the Triângulo Mineiro and Southwest Minas Gerais regions has been revised to 263.2 million boxes of 40.8 kilograms. The new estimate represents a growth of 3.11 TP4T compared to the initial projection, but still keeps production below the previous cycle.
The revision added 7.95 million boxes to the initial estimate and was mainly driven by the increased weight of the fruit of early and mid-season varieties, according to information cited by Itaú BBA's Agro Consulting firm based on Fundecitrus data.
Even with the positive adjustment, production remains 9.9% below the 2025/26 harvest. A significant part of the result still depends on the development of late-maturing varieties. Rainfall contributed to the improvement. Between May and August, the recorded volumes were, on average, 51% above normal in the citrus belt, favoring fruit weight gain.
Harvesting is proceeding more slowly than usual. By mid-August, approximately 27% of the production had been removed from the orchards. The industry has prioritized fruit from its own orchards and those under existing contracts. Furthermore, some of the fruit remains on the trees longer to achieve greater ripeness and a ratio considered more suitable for processing.
In the international market, orange juice continued to decline. On September 7th, FCOJ was quoted at 138.15 cents per pound, a decrease of 3.11% in 30 days. Brazilian juice exports also slowed in August. Shipments totaled 54,500 tons equivalent in FCOJ, a decrease of 26.9% compared to July, while revenue fell by 36% to US$123 million.
