The Imea (Mato Grosso Institute of Agricultural Economics) released a report highlighting updates on the corn harvest in the state. The survey indicates that Mato Grosso is expected to plant 7.39 million hectares of corn in the 2025/26 season, representing an increase of 1.83% compared to the 2024/25 season.
"The expansion in the cultivated field is driven by the greater domestic demand for the cereal, which sustains price increases and encourages producers to expand their agricultural area," explain the technicians from Imea.
On the other hand, the publication highlights that "the scenario of higher production costs, especially for inputs, imposes greater caution in decision-making, limiting further expansion in the cultivated area."
Looking at productivity, the Institute used historical averages as its methodology, indicating a yield that corresponds to the average of the last three harvests, resulting in 116.61 sacks per hectare, a reduction of 6.70% compared to the last cycle.
"This decline is driven by the record results obtained in the 24/25 harvest, thus, the season's projections are returning to historical averages," the report points out.
Given this, the 2025/26 crop production was estimated at 51.72 million tons, a reduction of 8.38% compared to the previous crop.
