Paraná consolidated its leading role in grain production in 2025. Data released this Thursday (15) by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) indicate that the State accounted for 13.5% of the national share of production last year, right after Mato Grosso (32%). Goiás (11.3%), Rio Grande do Sul (9.3%), Mato Grosso do Sul (8.1%) and Minas Gerais (5.5%) complete the list.

Only in the December forecast did Paraná have one of the main positive variations in Brazil, with growth of 49,000 tons. Other relevant variations occurred in São Paulo (253,000 t), Pará (92,000 t), Goiás (74,000 t), Tocantins (52,000 t) and Maranhão (20,000 t). Paraná's 2025 harvest broke the IBGE's historical record with 46.8 million tons.
At the same time, Paraná should renew this leading role in 2026, based on the third forecast of area and production for the harvest from IBGE. The Brazilian harvest of cereals, legumes and oilseeds should total 339.8 million tons. Compared to the second forecast, there was an increase of 4.2 million tons.
According to IBGE, Paraná is expected to see a 1.5% increase in production in 2026. Other states expected to perform well in the sector are Rio Grande do Sul, Piauí, and Rondônia. Conversely, IBGE indicates declines in Mato Grosso (-7.9%), Goiás (-8.0%), Mato Grosso do Sul (-6.8%), Minas Gerais (-1.7%), Bahia (-4.7%), São Paulo (-4.8%), Tocantins (-2.9%), Maranhão (-0.7%), Pará (-8.6%), Santa Catarina (-1.6%), and Sergipe (-7.4%).

This represents 19.4% of the total to be harvested in this first crop. The production estimate for the second crop is better. Paraná will produce 553,500 tons, an increase of 3% compared to the November forecast and 2.7% compared to the volume harvested in the same crop in 2025, and should account for 42.8% of the total crop, followed by Mato Grosso, with 172,900 tons.
The estimate for national corn production (second crop) for 2026 is 104.6 million tons. Paraná is the second largest producer and is expected to reach a harvest of 17.3 million tons, accounting for 16.51% of the total. Also relevant in second-crop corn production are: Goiás, with 13.3 million tons and a share of 12.71% of the total, and Mato Grosso do Sul, with 10.3 million tons and a share of 9.81% of the total.
National soybean production in 2026 is expected to increase by 2.51 TP4T compared to the previous harvest, totaling 170.3 million tons, which would represent a new record for national production of the legume. Paraná estimated the second largest national production, 22.1 million tons, representing a growth of 3.61 TP4T compared to the volume produced in 2025, which would be the largest harvest ever achieved in the State.
