Grain harvest for 2026/27 expected to grow 7.8% in Goiás

The 2026/27 grain harvest in Goiás is expected to reach 35.9 million tons, an increase of 7.81 TP4T compared to the previous cycle, when the state produced 33.3 million tons. According to data released by the National Supply Company (Conab), in the first survey of the season, the cultivated area should grow by 1.91 TP4T, increasing from 7.9 million to 8.1 million hectares.

The state ranks fourth among the largest national producers, accounting for 9.8% of Brazilian grain production. Average productivity in Goiás is also expected to increase, with an estimated 4.4 tons per hectare, a rise of 5.8% compared to the 4.2 tons recorded in the previous harvest.

The projected growth for Goiás surpasses the national estimate. According to data released by Conab, Brazilian grain production is expected to reach 367.1 million tons in the 2026/27 harvest, a growth of 1.41 TP4T compared to the previous cycle. Among the five largest grain producers in the country, Goiás presents the highest estimated growth rate. The result is driven by a combination of increased cultivated area and improved average productivity. “Goiás is growing above the national average, with gains in area, productivity, and especially production. The expectation is for positive results and a strong presence in Brazilian agribusiness,” says the Secretary of State for Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (Seapa), Ademar Leal.

The secretary also highlights the importance of the state for national supply and support for rural producers. “Goiás is consolidating itself with each harvest as a key player in supplying the country. Our mission is to maintain support, with programs and technical assistance, so that producers can continue producing safely and innovatively.”

Goiás maintains its national leadership in sorghum and sunflower production. For sorghum, the estimate is for growth of 19.91 TP4T in the 2026/27 harvest, with the harvest increasing from 2 million to 2.4 million tons. This volume corresponds to approximately 30.41 TP4T of the Brazilian production forecast for the crop. According to data released by Conab, the main factor for this increase is the productivity gain, estimated at 17.51 TP4T, from 3.2 to 3.8 tons per hectare. This is the largest increase among the producing states. The cultivated area should also increase, with an advance of 21 TP4T, from 631,100 to 643,700 hectares. This area exceeds the sum of all areas destined for [unclear - possibly "total sorghum"]. sorghum in the North and Northeast regions.

In sunflower cultivation, Goiás accounts for 81.2% of the planted area and 74.2% of the national production of the oilseed. The state has 63,000 hectares under cultivation and is expected to harvest 71,600 tons in the 2026/27 crop year, an increase of 1.7% compared to the previous cycle.

According to data released by Conab, growth will be sustained by an increase in average productivity, which should rise from 1,117 to 1,136 kilograms per hectare. Goiás is the only state with a projected increase in average yield for the crop. Nationally, productivity is expected to decrease by 1.1%, while Brazilian production of sunflower There is a projected drop of 1%. Therefore, the performance in Goiás should help support the national result for the oilseed.

THE corn It also appears among the highlights of the Goiás harvest. In the first harvest, the cultivated area should grow by 26.21 TP4T, going from 149,000 to 188,000 hectares. Production is projected to increase by 27.31 TP4T, from 1.5 million to 1.9 million tons. In the second harvest, responsible for the largest part of the volume produced, productivity should advance by 14.91 TP4T, while production should reach 10.4 million tons, an increase of 18.41 TP4T compared to the previous cycle.

Considering both harvests, the total corn production in Goiás should reach 12.3 million tons, a growth of 19.71% of the total. These estimates reinforce the state's importance in Brazilian grain production and point to an expansion of production in the 2026/27 season, with particular emphasis on the performance of sorghum, sunflower, and corn.
